課程概述
This course is designed as an advanced, mentorship-based writing workshop / studio to support Science and Engineering graduate students in progressing towards the completion and potential publication of their thesis, dissertation, or research manuscript. Recognizing the challenges of sustaining writing momentum under academic pressure, the course provides a structured, collaborative support system that facilitates consistent progress and supports the effective refinement of students’ work.
Through a guided, discussion-based, workshop-oriented format, students will advance their own research projects step by step, from refining research problems and structuring arguments to drafting key sections and responding to feedback. A distinctive component of this course is the weekly research check-in, which fosters sustained writing progress, reflection on challenges, and collaborative problem-solving. By sharing their work-in-progress, receiving targeted feedback, and engaging in ongoing peer collaboration, students will grow as independent writers in their fields, capable of producing publishable work.
To benefit most from the course, prior to enrollment, students are expected to have an English-language draft or outline of a research project to develop or revise during the course. Active participation is essential, as the course relies on regular attendance, peer engagement, and meaningful contributions to group discussions and feedback sessions.
NOTE:
This course is designed for Science and Engineering graduate students who are already actively working on a thesis, dissertation, or research manuscript. A brief consultation may be conducted during the first class session to assess students’ readiness and ensure alignment with course expectations.
