As of August 1, Professor Heng-Tsung (Danny) Huang has officially joined AWEC as our new Director, with Chiao-Ling (Lily) Chen serving as Deputy Director. Together, they will lead AWEC into its next chapter.
For AWEC, this summer has been a season of remembrance and transition. Following the passing of our beloved former director, Wei-Yan (Miguel) Li, Lily stepped in as Interim Director from May to July, ensuring the continuity of AWEC’s teaching, administrative work, and student services. We are sincerely grateful for her dedication and leadership during this important interim period. As Deputy Director, Lily will continue to work alongside Director Danny in supporting AWEC’s ongoing development.
Throughout her years of leadership, Miguel guided AWEC with a philosophy close to her heart: “education is a vocation of sharing happiness.” With this belief, she devoted herself to advancing Chinese and English writing pedagogy and expanding diverse learning opportunities for students. Her work supported countless students as they learned to think critically, express their ideas, and grow throughout their learning journeys. Her legacy lies not only in the programs and services she helped build, but also in her passion for education and her unwavering belief in every student’s potential.
As we carry this legacy forward, we warmly welcome Director Danny to AWEC. Professor Huang is a faculty member in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and previously served as Assistant Director of the Student Division at the Center for Bilingual Education (CBE). His areas of expertise include language assessment, computer-assisted language learning (CALL), second language acquisition, and quantitative research methods.
With his extensive experience in language education and innovative teaching, we look forward to the new perspectives and energy Director Danny will bring to AWEC. Under the leadership of Director Danny, AWEC will continue to strengthen writing and language education, foster interdisciplinary learning, and grow together with our faculty and students as we move into this new chapter.
