AI is rapidly transforming the way academic learning and research are conducted. To respond to this shift, our center has organized a series of three hands-on workshops. Participants will learn how to use AI tools to improve academic abstract writing, enhance the efficiency of journal reading, and support data analysis and visualization. Through these activities, we hope to help students and researchers strengthen their academic communication skills, increase research productivity, and develop more insightful analytical thinking.
Talk 1
Writing Effective Abstracts: Structure in Chinese and English with Practical and Responsible Use of AI Tools (Delivered in Chinese)
Time and Date: 4/10 (Fri.) 14:20 – 16:00
Synopsis: A strong abstract is key to effective research communication. This workshop explores the structure and key elements of abstracts in both Chinese and English. Participants will also learn how AI tools can assist in revising abstracts to improve clarity and efficiency while maintaining responsible and ethical use of AI in academic writing.
Speakers:
Lily (Chiao-ling Chen), Project Instructor, AWEC
Hong-Ling Su, Project Instructor, AWEC
Talk 2
Upgrading Your Research Toolkit: Practical Applications of AI-Assisted Tools for Reading Journal Articles (Delivered in Chinese)
Time and Date: 5/08 ((Fri.) 13:30 – 15:10
Synopsis: This workshop offers hands-on training in using AI-assisted tools such as SciSpace to support academic reading and research. Participants will learn how to quickly scan research papers, identify key research focuses, and manage useful sources for their studies. Through demonstrations of article analysis tools, the workshop aims to help researchers improve reading efficiency within limited time and reduce the challenges of preparing literature reviews.
Speaker: Angela (Yi-Jiun Shiung) , Project Instructor, AWEC
Talk 3
From Data to Discovery: A Hands-On Introduction to Julius AI
Time and Date: 5/29 (Fri.) 14:20 – 16:00
Synopsis: In this hands-on workshop, graduate students and researchers will learn Julius AI, an AI-powered platform for exploring datasets with simple English prompts and no coding. We’ll practice cleaning data, generating quick summaries and visualizations, and writing prompts that produce clear, insight-driven charts. The session ends with a fun team challenge to investigate a research-style dataset and share mini “discoveries” through data storytelling.
Speaker: Kevin Kau, Project Instructor, AWEC
